Real Women Are Strong and Beautiful

There are two things that sparked interest on the internet this weekend. One was the release of “Fifty Shades of Grey” which looks as though it’s on track to have one of the highest grossing opening weekends in history.

The other was an unretouched, unPhotoshopped photo of supermodel Cindy Crawford.

As for the first, I will say what I said on my Facebook page over the weekend:

A while back I picked up a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey out of curiosity to see what all the buzz was about. I think I made it to Chapter 4 before I tossed it in the trash. It was a poorly written book and I don’t enjoy reading poorly written books. I find nothing sexy or romantic about an older, worldly man of substantial wealth manipulating and using a young college student for his own selfish gratification. This blog post is very well written and says it all. A definite must-read for any parent raising a child in today’s warped society.

As for the blog post I was referring to, you can read that HERE.

There was also another post I linked to which had 6 lines from the book. Nothing sexy or romantic about these quotes in my opinion. You can see that post HERE.

The bottom line is that women who are in relationships that force them to be abused, submissive and in danger need to get out. That is NOT a normal, loving and healthy relationship. Stalking, kidnapping, assault and rape are not okay. Period.

As for Cindy Crawford, this photo of this gorgeous woman surfaced:

It, too, caused quit a commotion.

Why? Because it was NOT photoshopped and retouched to the point where a normal 48 year old woman (who is in fantastic shape after having 2 children) looks like a 20 year old who has never had kids.

People age. It’s a fact. You are not going to look the same at 50 as you did at 20. Nor should you want to.

The alternative to aging is death, so I’m pretty happy to embrace my age, which is 52. Here’s a recent photo I took of myself on Instagram.

You’ll notice I’m not posting selfies in bikinis … there’s a reason for that. I weigh far more than I did at 20. I’ve had 3 children. I’m 52.

Am I ashamed of my body? No! I love my body!

But time has marched on, as it should. When I was 20, I was concerned with how attractive I looked to everyone else. Now, I’m wondering did my body get enough nutrition that day … Is it strong? Is it healthy? Is it aging gracefully?

Am I becoming the kind of person I would want to meet and have as a friend?

Am I the kind of person God would want me to be?

These are the things that concern me. I wager, those are the things that Cindy Crawford thinks about too.

Whether you are in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s or beyond, love yourself. Embrace the uniqueness of YOU!

You are a strong and beautiful being! Don’t let the opinions of others shape your vision of yourself.

And don’t ever let anyone take away your power!
