Purpose and Passion: What Is Holding You Back?

Everyone talks about having a purpose and doing what you are passionate about; however, rarely do we find someone who is actually living their passion. How many people do you know who are actively pursuing their passion and living the life of their dreams?

Very few!

So what is holding you and so many others back from living a full, abundant life?

Once again, I believe the overriding component is fear.

They will come up with excuses that they don’t know how to start or they don’t have money or they have too much going on. Those are all just what I said … excuses!

There was an episode of “Sex and the City” once where the main character, Carrie Bradshaw was questioning whether or not she wanted something. Her friends assured her that of course she did, she just didn’t have the means to get it at that point.

Carrie, who’s love of designer shoes and clothes were legendary, was aware enough to state the obvious, “I always find a way to get what I want. If I see a ridiculously expensive pair of shoes I want, I WILL FIND A WAY to get them!”

And there you have it.

The people who really want their lives to change and are willing to find a way to get it, will find a way. It goes back to “Seek and you shall find.”

If you haven’t found it, you just haven’t looked hard enough yet.

It comes back to your why.

We hear that a lot and many of you may not know what the phrase, “Find your why” is all about.

It is your overall desire to get something or make something happen. Why do you want this? It’s not enough to say you want more money.

Why do you want the money?

So you can get your kids into better a better neighborhood? So they can attend better schools? Maybe you want to take care of your parents in their old age or not have to worry about paying your bills anymore.

Whatever your why, it must be strong. It must be strong enough to crush any fear you have of looking ridiculous or failing. It must be strong enough that you say to yourself, “I don’t care if I feel stupid. I don’t care what my family and friends think. I don’t care if I don’t know what I’m doing, I’m going to do it anyway because this is too important to me NOT to try.”

Yesterday, as I was reading my youngest son one of his read-aloud books for homeschool (we are studying Japan), one of the characters kept telling a new apprentice, “Honorable success comes from horrible mistakes.”

In other words, “Fail your way to success.” I keep hearing this time and time again from successful entrepreneurs like Richard Branson, Mark Burnett, and many, many more.

Find your purpose. Find your why. Don’t let your fear hold you back. Don’t let anything hold you back.

What is your why and have you made it strong enough so that you won’t let anything get in your way?
