How To Overcome Your Fears

We all fear something. Some of us allow those fears to get the better of us. We allow them to paralyze us into not reaching for our dreams.

There is no book, no person, no conference that can help you overcome your fears. That capability lies within each of us. We are the only ones who can stand up against the thing we fear.

Is fear stopping you from going after what you want?

Leadership and personal development expert Michael Hyatt said in an interview, “Fear is the number one obstacle that most people face in their lives. Very few people talk about it, but I can guarantee you it’s the biggest thing I face in my own heart. There have been times when I have lain awake at night wondering, particularly in this economy, “What’s going to happen to me? What’s going to happen to my company? What’s going to happen to my family?” Fear is a very debilitating thing. It doesn’t serve many useful purposes, and people can get really stuck in it.

When I’m afraid, I have a practice of walking right into my fears rather than away from them. If people can get used to that, their fear will dissipate. Most of the power of fear is in your mind; it doesn’t really exist. It’s just this idea that looms because we are unwilling to face it. But the way to declaw it, the way to defuse it, is to step into it—right into the middle of it—and do the thing that you are afraid to do.”

Most of us have been paralyzed by fear at some point in our lives. In some cases, our anxiety becomes so strong that we may even feel as though we are having a heart attack.

I believe fear is at the root of many people’s excuses. They make excuses for why they cannot do something because they are afraid to take action on their goals. It can be quite debilitating for some.

Fear lives mostly in our minds and if we allow it to fester, it can cripple us. The only solution is to face it. as long as we fail to face it.

While fear can protect us from dangerous situations, it can also prevent us from living the life we dream of.

The only solution is to face those fears head on, stay focused on the goal and keep moving forward.
