How To Do A 3 Day Juice Cleanse

It’s the New Year and along with a new year, comes health-related resolutions. People vow to lose weight, get in shape and do better than they did last year. One of the things they may consider doing to kickstart their healthful living is a 3 day juice cleanse.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, then you know I am currently enrolled in a Doctor of Naturopathy program through Trinity School of Natural Health. This has been a personal journey for me. The more I learned about holistic health, the more I wanted to know, so I decided to enroll and get the degree. I have never had any plans to hang out a shingle and open a practice. It’s for my own personal use and to help my family.

As part of my education, they briefly covered a 3 day juice fast and the instructor stated she believed it was beneficial for everyone to do a 3 day juice cleanse twice a year. Since I have decided to become a full-time vegan, it seemed like a good start to my new way of eating. Yes, I have a juicer, but this 3 Day Cleanse from Juice Nashville was a great deal and they delivered it right to my door.

If you’re not in the Nashville area, don’t worry, you can get a juice cleanse from Amazon!

Why should YOU do a 3 day juice cleanse?

Here are just a few reasons:

1. It help ends cravings for unhealthy foods – After drinking nothing but raw fruit and vegetable juices combined with water in between, your body will say, “Thank you!” You will find that it no longer craves the “bad” stuff like sugar, greasy foods, etc. In fact, I’m just starting out on Day 3 of my cleanse and all I can think about eating is a roasted veggie sandwich on rye.

2. It gives your digestive system a rest – When you eat not-so-good-for-you foods, you are really putting your digestive tract a workout. It goes into overtime looking for nutrients to fuel your body and if the food you’re eating is not nutrient dense, that can be a lot of work without a lot of payoff. Juicing will give your body the chance to relax and just absorb all of that nutritional goodness without all the added work.

3. It will reduce your appetite – Since you’re not eating for 3 days, your stomach will shrink back to a normal size. Because of this, you’ll find that when you do go back to eating food, your stomach will not be able to hold as much. Eat slowly, listen to your body and when it says, “I’m feeling full!” listen to it!

One of the more famous advocates for juicing is Joe Cross. If you’ve never heard of him, then you probably never watched his documentary, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.”

In his film, Joe undergoes a 60 day juice cleanse. Yes, 60 days is extreme and he was under a doctor’s supervision. His health journey and those of the people who joined him on his 60 day cleanse was nothing short of amazing!

Dr. Oz had Joe on his show and has a program on his site where I found this graphic for your own 3 day juice cleanse.

You should drink at least 8 oz. of water between each juice and drink your juice every 2 hours. I usually try and finish my juices by 6:30 or else I find myself heading to the potty the first 3rd of the night. This does NOT make for a restful night’s sleep. I made that mistake on Saturday because I got my juices late and had my last one around 8:30. Then I drank 8 oz. of water. You can imagine what my night was like. Yesterday I made sure the schedule was worked out so I finished at 6:30 and had a restful night’s sleep. I highly recommend you do the same!

If you’re wondering why I decided to become a full-time vegan, it’s because of my health. I think God was giving me wake-up calls over the last couple of years and while I have been dipping my toes off and on over the last 3 years, the time came to just embrace it.

If you’re wondering what the benefits are of a whole foods plant based diet, you should watch “Forks Over Knives.” It’s on Netflix. Even my husband, who is a huge carnivore, said he’s willing to go vegan at least part-time after watching it. Don’t worry, no grotesque animal cruelty stuff going on. It’s just a great documentary on the health benefits of this way of life.

There’s a reason Bill Clinton adopted a vegan diet after his heart health scare!

Do something good for your health and try a 3 day juice cleanse. Your body will thank you!
