Should You Be Fasting?

For me, that answer is yes!

Let me tell you why!

Every year, our family celebrates what we refer to as “Family Week” even though it lasts for 10 days. Family Week begins with my husband’s and my wedding anniversary on the 8th, our daughter’s birthday on the 11th, Father’s Day and finally, his birthday on the 17th. During that time, we feast and feast and feast in celebration of our family.

Yesterday was the culmination of that week. Instead of birthday cake, my husband requested Strawberry Shortcake. We use butter pound cake for the short cake, real whipped cream and sugar-laden strawberry puree for the sauce. It is decadent and it is delicious!

However, this morning I feel like what I imagine someone who has been on a 10 day alcoholic drinking binge feels like the morning after. I am having a food hangover and I feel awful.

And gross.

Most of the time, I try and eat a pretty healthy diet. And when I say diet, I’m not referring to being on a diet, I am referring to the fuel I put in my body on a daily basis. I took those 10 days off and indulged like there was no tomorrow.

Well, tomorrow is here and I am paying the price. I have a headache. My stomach is cramping. I feel nauseous. I forced myself to walk for 45 minutes this morning and I thought I was going to die.

Because of this, the only thing I can think of to get myself back on track is to fast. So that is what I am doing. I have decided to fast for 3 days and only drink Ningxia Red and water.

But wait! This gets better! Remember last summer when I decided to eat raw vegan for 3 weeks? I only lasted 2 weeks, but I felt AMAZING!

I have decided to do it again. Once I’ve finished my 3 day fast of Ningxia Red and water, I’m going to eat a raw vegan diet for a month.

It is the only thing I can think of that will restart my body into a healthy eating program.

Honestly, if I ever talk about going off the wagon and eating crap again like I’ve been eating since June 8th, please stop me.

I think every time I feel like eating junk, I’m going to bookmark this post to remind myself of how insanely horrible I am feeling at this moment.

Trust me, it can only be an improvement on how I am feeling at this moment.
