Are You Getting What You Expect?

th 1

If you keep looking for something, it usually has a way of showing up.

I’ll give you an example. My sons and I run together every morning. I have been running this same trail for over a year and occasionally, I would hear someone say they saw a copperhead. I never did. Then, for some reason a few weeks ago, I kept thinking about snakes and in particular, copperheads. I started actively looking for a copperhead while we ran. My eyes would dart from one side of the trail to the other, expecting to see one curled up, ready to strike.

And guess what? One day, as my gaze traveled over the side of the trail, there was a copperhead. It was curled up, just as I imagined it. I think it lives in the general area that I first saw it, because I’ve seen it at least 6 times in the past two weeks. My youngest son almost stepped on a baby copperhead last week.

I keep reading phrases like, “What you think about, you bring about.” I am starting to wonder if I brought that copperhead into my own path by thinking about it all the time.

I believe it is the same thing no matter what you think about in life.

If you constantly focus on your lack of money, I think you will draw more of that into your life. If, however, you are grateful for every blessing in your life and thankful for the gifts God has given you. You will find more blessings to be grateful for.

Instead of focusing on what you don’t want, focus on the things you want to bring into your life. Focus on the blessings. Focus on what is good.

This is why vision boards are so important, because they can give you a visual picture to focus your energy on.

I knew a man once and his entire focus was on how bad everything was in his life. He consistently thought about how bad things were. He talked about how bad things were. He cultivated friendships with others who had the same mindset. And guess what? Even when something good entered into his life, somehow, some way, that positive fell away and he was back at square one, talking about how bad things were and how everyone he talked to said the same thing.

Well, duh. If you surround yourself with people who are constantly talking about how hard life is and how bad things are and you fill your mind with those thoughts, that’s exactly what you are going to get.

If you find yourself heading into what I call, “Negative Nelly” territory. Stop! You can stop yourself. Say it outloud. “Stop! That’s not true! Things are wonderful! Life is great! Every day and in every way my life is getting better and better!”

Stay away from people who are negative. If possible, get them out of your life. If it’s a family member, that will be more difficult. In that case, you will just have to tune them out. When it happens to me, I visualize putting my fingers in my ears and going, “LALALALALALALA.” It may be silly, but it’s better than letting their negativity creep into your subconscious!

You are in control of your thoughts! You are in control of your emotions! Look for the best! Expect the best!

You will find it has a funny way of showing up!
