7 Ways You Can Live A More Abundant Life

Would you like to live a more abundant life?

Do you even know what an abundant life looks like? Abundance means different things to different people, but for the most part, abundance really has very little to do with how much money you have in the bank (other than to give you peace of mind).

Having an abundant mindset means to look at the world through the lens of gratitude. It means seeing life from a positive perspective. It means having a purpose to get out of bed in the morning.

It means caring about others. Some of the most miserable people I have ever encountered were those who dwell on themselves all the time. They think about what they want, need, desire and all of the things that revolve around them.

Abundance is not about money and it is not about living a life of me, me, me. It is so much more than that! So what are some ways you can have a more abundant life?

1. Exercise – I can hear the groans through my computer screen. Exercise should not be a miserable experience. You should do things you enjoy. Bo Derek (for those not familiar with Bo, look up Bo and “10”) says the only workout she does is working with her horses, cleaning stalls and riding. Walking is a great exercise, but it must be done consistently and for at least 45 minutes a day. Swimming is great too! The point is to find something to make you get up off that couch and get moving, whether that means a walk in the woods, a swim at the pool or a ride on a horse. It doesn’t mean dragging yourself out of bed and brutalizing your body for 60 minutes once in a while. Find something you enjoy that requires physical exertion, do that and do it consistently!

2. Find your purpose – As I’ve written many times, people tend to live their lives just going through the motions and never really live. Stop! Think about what you really want to do with your life and get started! It is never too late to dream, set goals and pursue those goals. That is your purpose. I don’t care where you come from or what age you are, you CAN find purpose and meaning in your life and work towards your goals. The ONLY time it’s too late is when you’re 6 feet underground. Find your why and get started TODAY.

3. Slow Down – These days, especially here in the United States, get so caught up in the more, more, more mentality, we never take the time to sit back and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Take a walk in nature. Smell the flowers. Notice the beauty that surrounds us every day. Don’t be so busy that you forget to live. Spend some time each day just being quiet and at peace. Dwell on the many blessings you have. Look for them. Look for the beauty in this world. We all tend to find what it is we’re looking for.

There was a story I read not long ago about a person who witnessed two dogs going into a room together. After a few minutes, one of the dogs came out extremely happy and excited with it’s tail wagging. The other dog came out of the room very angry and growling. The person wondered what on earth could have been in that room to give such different experiences to the dogs. They opened the door to find a room full of mirrors. The happy dog saw a thousand other happy, friendly dogs wagging their tales. The other dog saw miserable, growling dogs wherever he turned. Be the happy dog.

4. Eat more fruits and vegetables – Turns out your mom was right when she told you to eat your veggies. Vegetables and fruits are filled with good-for-you nutrition. Make sure you’re eating organic, non GMO foods if you can.

5. Don’t eat too much – Again, here in the Unites States, we are bombarded with fast food restaurants at ever corner and all-you-can-eat buffets are the norm. Stop. Your body really doesn’t need all that much food and if you’re not doing the first thing on my list on a regular basis, then you’re going to get fat and obese. Trust me. Eat only as much as your body needs and no more. Free advice: Stay away from sugary sweets and desserts — your body has no need for those!

6. Spend time with family and friends – If you don’t live near family, then create your own family with your friends. Get out and meet people. Join clubs doing what you like and meet people with interests similar to your own. Make time to spend with others and enjoy their company. Go out to dinner. Go to a movie. Host a potluck brunch, lunch or dinner at your house. Make yourself a tribe!

7. Faith – I have often said, when I have gone through tough times, that I did not know how people who had no faith get through those times. Faith gives you sense of community, a place to turn in times of trouble and people who care. I know God loves me and wants what is best for me. Knowing that, gives me hope for a bright and wonderful future.

You can live a life of wellness, purpose and abundance. Anyone can. It’s a choice and every decision you make is a choice for living a positive life of abundance, or it is a choice to live in mediocrity.

Choose abundance!
