7 Foods You Must Buy Organic

In our journey to living a healthier, more abundant life, many of us are buying only organic foods for ourselves and our families. However, many people are unable to buy all organic all of the time.

One of the vegetables I always make sure is organic are potatoes. And here’s why!

Dr. Oz listed them on his website along with 6 other foods you should always buy from the organic section of the store. Here is his list of 7:

Root Vegetable: Potatoes
Regular potatoes that are grown above ground are sprayed with pesticides, and the soil they’re grown in is treated with fungicide. By buying organic varieties, you avoid both these threats. In case you can’t find organic potatoes, try sweet potatoes; they are usually grown with less pesticides overall. Organic potatoes cost about $1.49 per pound at grocery stores.

Produce: Peppers and Celery
Both veggies react to pesticides in the same way: like a sponge, absorbing the chemicals through the skin. Because of this, you won’t be able to reduce chemical ingestion by washing or peeling them. Always choose the organic variety. Organic peppers and celery cost between $3.99 and $6.99 per pound at grocery stores.

Leafy Greens: Lettuce, Spinach and Collard Greens
Usually these plants are doused in pesticides to ward off insects. Organic growers use methods like non-toxic repellents to keep these vegetables free of pests. Organic greens cost between $2.99 and $5.98 per pound.

Dairy Products: Yogurt, Butter, Cheese and Ice-Cream
It’s important to go organic with these kitchen staples because we eat so much of them, so often. Non-organic dairy products may come from cows fed a diet of genetically modified corn, soy, and antibiotics. Organic dairy products can be found at grocery stores and usually cost between $2.19 and $4.29.

If you’re like me, the thought of never having potatoes can be a real bummer. I confess, I do not eat them that often.

However, there comes the occasion, such as tonight, when I crave a few fries with my dinner. I recently figured out a way to make them that is perfect, healthy and even my children love them.

In fact, they commented, “These are the best french fries ever!” I hope your family enjoys them as well.

Healthy Potato Fries

4 Organic Potatoes, washed and scrubbed (I like leaving the skin on for more nutrition)
1/4 cup Olive Oil
1 T Salt
1/2 t Pepper
1 T Parsley Flakes

Heat Oven to 450. Cut Potatoes into 1/4″ shoestring size strips. Drizzle with Olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper and parsley. Mix them up well with your hands to ensure all potatoes are coated evenly. Spread out on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 30 minutes until crisp and brown. Enjoy!

What is your favorite way to fix potatoes?
