What Are You Reading?
I was on Facebook the other day and someone said they were reading 3 books simultaneously. I know, it sounds impossible and crazy and what on earth is she doing?
I have a confession to make. I’m also reading multiple books. All for different reasons.
I’ve blogged before that one of the first things I do in the morning before I get out of bed is read my Bible and say my prayers. I then read some kind of a self-help or educational book, such as The Power of Positive Thinking. Right now, I’m reading Stephen King’s book on Writing and it is AMAZING!!!
Later in the day, while I’m sitting in the mom car line waiting for my boys to get out of school (which is a good 45 minutes usually), I read some kind of a research or educational book. Today, I was reading a book about publishing ebooks, because I think that’s the road I’m going to head down in the next few months. I’ve got a romantic suspense I’m going to retool. I finished it several years ago and just discovered it while doing the decluttering thing, so that will more than likely be my first book release.
What am I waiting for? I want it polished more, but also, I’m in the middle of working on a trilogy and I’ve only finished the first book of the trilogy. I’d like to finish writing and editing books 2 and 3 of that series before I publish it. I don’t want someone to read Book 1, love it and have to wait an eternity for Book 2 and Book 3. This way, if they love it, they can continue to the next book without wondering when/if another book is coming. They can see it’s there, published and waiting for them.
Anyway, once I’m finished with that book, I’m going to start reading the book on CAA. You see, my trilogy is a romance, but it’s also based around Hollywood and DC and I think the CAA book will help with some background information.
I saw one review that said it was “The Godfather meets Hollywood.” Sounds good, right? I can use that in my trilogy!
Finally, when it’s time to go to bed, I pull out my tablet, open my Kindle App and enjoy a nice, juicy novel. Right now, I’m re-reading The Outlander series for the fourth time (or is it the fifth?). I confess, I was one of those fans who waited forever for it to be made into a series and now that STARZ has fulfilled my wish, I am addicted. So, what’s a girl to do when the season is over and she needs a fix? She cracks open the book and reads it again!
I’m probably going to read the Elin Hildebrand book I already downloaded after reading “Here’s To Us!” Great book by the way! This one is “The Beach Club” and I had every intention of reading it right away, until my Outlander obsession got the best of me and I had to reread Jamie and Claire’s story one more time.
You want to know what’s so amusing? I used to hate reading. No, that’s not strong enough. I LOATHED reading. It wasn’t until I was in high school and my teacher let us pick our own books to read for our book reports that everything changed. I grabbed the trashiest, gossipy novel I could find and away I went! From there, I found Stephen King and Mary Higgins Clark. If it was scary, sexy or trashy, I was all in! I have not looked back since.
So, that’s what I’m reading right now. I like almost anything, but romance mingled with suspense is my absolute favorite (heavy on the suspense please).
Let me know what you’re reading!
