Find Your Magnificent Obsession

th 1

Have you ever seen the movie, “Magnificent Obsession?”

It’s an oldie but a goodie starring Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman. The plot revolves around a reckless playboy who, through his carelessness, causes the death of a beloved doctor. He tries to make amends with the doctor’s young widow, only to end up causing her to rush into an oncoming vehicle. She ends up blind as a result. The playboy decides to turn his life around and becomes a brain surgeon, determined to cure the widow, who he has fallen in love with. He begins his ‘Magnificent Obsession’ of finding a cure.

There is a lesson to be learned from this film, which was adapted from a book by the same name. When we become obsessed with something, it’s all we can think about. Our thoughts are consumed with it.

Can you imagine what you could accomplish if your thoughts were consumed with success in reaching your goals?

This is where many people miss the point. It isn’t enough to be consumed by thoughts of success. As the playboy who became a brain surgeon found, it is a specific goal which fuels our obsession, plus taking action to achieve it that eventually ends in our success.

For instance, you can say I want to be a success. But what does that mean? Success is a broad term and it means different things to different people. What do you want to be successful at?

Do you want a successful career? Which career? Do you have an endgame in mind?

For instance, I have three career goals: To be a best-selling novelist, to empower and motivate others to reach their goals and to be a Royal Crown Diamond with Young Living Essential Oils.

In order to achieve my goals, I take steps every day toward reaching them. First, I motivate myself by getting up at 4:45 am, meditating and praying regarding what I would like to accomplish, I then read the Bible and whichever self-help, inspirational book I have at the time. Right now I am reading “Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude.” It’s another one of those oldie but goodies.

Second, I write every day Monday through Friday – one thousand words or bust. Once I’ve reached one thousand words, I find a good place and I stop. Even if it’s in the middle of a scene and sometimes especially if it’s in the middle of a scene, because I have found it prompts me to start writing the next morning.

Third, I go to Hootsuite and set up positive messages to send my followers throughout the day. Reading the messages as I type them not only motivates me, but I pray that they touch someone who needs it and help them in their quest for a better life.

I then go to my blog and write a Daily Vitamin for the Soul and find a beautiful photo to go along with the quote I choose. Afterward, I write a blog that I hope will help someone live a healthier and/or more positive life.

Afterward, I go for a run, shower and start working on my other goal, which is to build my Young Living business.

What I have learned is that it is not enough to just use the “Law of Attraction” when you want to achieve. It is a given that you must stay focused on what it is you want, but you also must take action.

Goal + Consistent Focused Action = Success

Find your own Magnificent Obsession, take action and don’t stop until you find success.
