Clouds With Silver Linings

th 1

Most of us have had those days (sometimes weeks and months) where we find ourselves in tough situations. They might be financial, physical or emotional. You may be going through one of those phases in your life right now.

Yes, I said “phase.” Anytime you are going through a rough patch, always remind yourself that it is a temporary situation, not permanent. It is just one phase of many you go through in life and you will pass through it and find yourself in a better phase.

As Winston Churchill famously said, “When you’re walking through hell, keep walking.”

Don’t allow yourself to get mired down in the daily minutia of your pain and frustration. Instead, look for the proverbial silver lining in the clouds.

You will find that not everything in life goes exactly according to plan. Life will always throw you a curve ball when you’re expecting a fast ball down the middle. The important thing to remember is not to stay focused on the bad, but try and find the good in every situation.

One of my favorite motivational quotes is from the late Steve Jobs who said, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

We cannot always see how what we are going through will impact our life down the road. Perhaps the tough times are so we will not take the good times for granted. Perhaps it is teaching us a lesson we will need for future growth.

There is always something good to come from every situation, no matter how bad it may be. Always look for that good. Focus on that good and know that the situation does not define you. It is only one part of your journey.

Learn from it and move on.
