6 Tips To Help You Persevere When You Want To Quit

We’ve all had those days (sometimes weeks), where we feel like we have worked and worked and worked, but have nothing to show for it. That’s when the little negative voice inside you says, “This isn’t working, I should just quit.”

That’s when you need to give yourself a pep talk and keep going. It is true that the only way to fail is to quit. No one said that being a success would be easy. That is why so many people quit and so few become really successful.

It is the successful person who keeps on going through obstacles, through trials and through those days when you just want to quit.

When that happens to you, I hope you will use these tips when you want to give up:

1. Remember why you started – what your reasons were. What was the “spark” that got you going, and inspired you to begin on the journey you are on?

2. List all the reasons why you can persevere, and make it to the end so you reach your goal. Remind yourself you have what you need to succeed.

3. Give yourself permission to give up if you choose. That reminds you that it’s you who is in control. “I’ll do this for 3 months and give it my all and then decide if it’s worth my effort”. You’re choosing to do this as it’s what YOU want to do.

4. Think of all the reasons why you should persevere – as that stops you focusing on why you should give up. What are the benefits? What will you gain? How will you feel when you’ve reached your goal?

5. Instead of concentrating on the struggle and the effort, focus all that energy on looking for solutions.

6. Recognize that success WILL require sacrifice. It’s always hard work, and every winner pays a price. This doesn’t fall in most people’s life. It will require work. You get out of it what you put into it. “No pain no gain” is a basic truth in life.

You can do whatever it is you put your mind to and believe. Just remember Les Brown’s famous tag line: There’s greatness within you!

Don’t give up!
